EnerDel designs, builds and manufactures lithium-ion energy storage solutions and battery systems with a focus on heavy duty transportation, on- and off-grid electrical, mass transit and task-oriented applications. The company was the first in the U.S. to mount commercial-scale production of large-format, prismatic, lithium-ion battery packs. EnerDel currently has two facilities in the Indianapolis area, as well as a manufacturing facility in Korea. In 2012, EnerDel launched a joint venture with Wanxiang Electric Vehicle Co., which is the electric vehicle subsidiary of Wanxiang Group. Wanxiang is the largest automotive parts supplier in China. The joint venture will
manufacture, sell and distribute battery cells and packs for China’s transportation and grid energy storage markets from Wanxiang’s facility in Hangzhou. EnerDel owns 40% of the joint venture.
EnerDel’s customers include those focused on heavy-duty transportation, such as Hyundai Heavy Industries, AC Transit and Hokuriku Electric Power Company, plus light-duty passenger vehicles like Volvo Car Corporation. The company’s focus with task-oriented applications includes customers like Toro and Lightning Motorcycles. EnerDel’s grid energy storage customers, include companies like Portland General Electric and the Federal Grid Company. Through its affiliate company, Emerging Power, EnerDel also provides small-pack battery solutions for industrial customers.
EnerDel protects its products, solutions and technologies with more than 85 issued patents. It has an additional 40 pending.
